Export your recipe book

You can export your entire recipe book into a CSV file at any time, whether you have a current subscription with Plan to Eat or not.

If you have a current subscription:

  1. Click the Account link at the top right of the Plan to Eat window
  2. Click Export My Recipes link under the Your Account Status heading
  3. Make sure Save File is selected and then click OK.


If your subscription has expired:

  1. Log in to your Plan to Eat account
  2. You will see a page stating that your subscription has expired. Press the link at the bottom to Export Your Recipe Book.
  3. Make sure Save File is selected and then click OK.

We export your recipes to a .csv file format with the goal of using it in your own spreadsheet software or (gasp) other recipe software. A CSV file can be opened in spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel or Numbers. We use a CSV file because it is the file format most likely to be compatible with other recipe software if you want to move from Plan to Eat elsewhere.


The CSV file is set up as a spreadsheet with each row as a recipe. The columns are set up as:

Title: The title of the recipe
Course: Which course you have this recipe categorized in
Cuisine: Which cuisine you have this recipe categorized in
Main Ingredient: Which main ingredient you have this recipe categorized in
Description: Anything you put into the description field
Source: A description of the original source of the recipe
Url: A link to the original webpage from which the recipe was imported
Url Host: The name of the website from which the recipe was imported
Prep Time: The number of minutes required to prepare the recipe
Cook TimeThe number of minutes required to prepare the recipe
Total TimeThe total time to make the recipe
Servings: The number of servings made using the amounts of ingredients listed
Yield: A description of how much the recipe makes
Ingredients: The listing of ingredients
Directions: The listing of directions
Tags: Any tags that you had assigned to this recipe
Rating: The rating that you had assigned to this recipe
Public Url: A link to this recipe in your Plan to Eat account
Photo Url: A link to the photo of this recipe in your Plan to Eat account
Private: Whether or not you marked this recipe as private
Nutritional Score (generic): Nutritional information that you entered
Calories: Nutritional information that you entered
Fat: Nutritional information that you entered
Cholesterol: Nutritional information that you entered
Sodium: Nutritional information that you entered
Sugar: Nutritional information that you entered
Carbohydrate: Nutritional information that you entered
Fiber: Nutritional information that you entered
Protein: Nutritional information that you entered
Cost: Cost information that you entered
Created At: When this recipe was first added to your Plan to Eat account
Updated At: When this recipe was last edited in your Plan to Eat account

This spreadsheet contains every piece of recipe information that you put into your Plan to Eat account.
